I was drawn to the hypnotic rhythms and exotic movements of belly dance from the moment I saw my first performance. Despite my diverse dance background, I had never before seen such a colourful, fun and dramatic dance style. I was hooked.
I was fortunate enough to train under Kristina Robyn-Parnaby (1st place winner in the 2003 Australian National Belly Dance Competition) and talented dance teacher, Jamila.
After years of studying the art of belly dancing, I started performing at corporate functions and private events around Cairns. I then decided the best way to share my love of belly dance was to start teaching classes.
Classes allow women to take time out of their busy schedules to concentrate on themselves, mix with like-minded women and, above all, have fun! I often observe a transformation in women who attend belly dancing classes. They appear more confident, have renewed enthusiasm and they aren't afraid of expressing their feminine self.
I've always had a fascination with dance and movement of the human body. I trained in classical ballet and jazz as a young girl and teenager. Now I enjoy attending yoga, stretch, anaerobic conditioning and pole dancing classes. My love of movement has also extended to fire dancing. I recently joined FireTech Dance Troupe (click here for more information) and perform at functions around Cairns.
Like fire dancing, belly dancing is an incredibly empowering activity. Join a belly dancing class and discover the modern benefits of this age-old dance for yourself. Nothing quite compares to belly dancing in terms of its physical, mental and emotional benefits. And personally, I think it's a lot more fun than the gym!
I hope you enjoy the unique experience of belly dance.
